The Window of Tolerance

The “window of tolerance” is the range where we can think clearly and manage emotions. Stress can push us into hyperarousal (anxiety, panic) or hypoarousal (numbness, shutdown). Grounding, deep breathing, connecting with others (crisis lines or familiar people), having a shower, a snack, non-alcoholic beverage, and a comforting hobby help widen this window, making it easier to stay balanced during challenges.
